I can see a correlation a little but I don't know why 50k is the over under that they see. I think that would greatly depend on where you live and how much housing costs.

Right now I'm worried and less happy due to lack of income even if temporary but it's not near the 50k mark or 100k even if you count 2 incomes it's the change of income (decrease) and the change in cost of living (major increase). The thing is I am usually the frugal one and I have to keep yelling at my husband to quit buying things. You can't just go to the mall and end up in an apple store and buy a new macbook air. That just doesn't fly. (He thinks it does. He's done it twice well the first time he had a laptop and bought his first macbook air. Then he did that with an ipad before too. That apple store at the mall is bad for our pockebook.) Yet I agonize over spending $40 on shoes.

I think $50K sounds about right, too. There is so much excess in the average lifestyle that we think of as necessary but really aren't crucial to survival or happiness, and I think what you mention about savings and investments is important, too (worrying about emergencies/retirement = damper on happiness...in my opinion, at least)

as is often said, "money can't buy happiness." but money does bring (if nothing else) financial security and the ability to buy basics which lend to reasonable health (housing, food, clothing). both which are pretty damn necessary factors in achieving happiness.

as for specific numbers, i think $50k sounds reasonable. it's certainly enough to live a at least decent lifestyle in most (probably all?) u.s. cities, but it also means you have a little extra $ for saving up towards emergencies or a future investment (house, kids, car).

A lot of magazines do little freebies (Lucky tends to do tote bags, etc.).

Great suggestion...I just installed a plug-in, so that option should be available now! Let me know if you see it.

It's just me standing on a stool in the kitchen looking into the bathroom mirror. Haven't gotten around to picking up a mirror for this place yet. Our condo building lobby is also completely mirrored, so sometimes I just walk out the door to check my appearance before I leave the house. :)

I never thought of that before. But I also didn't even know they gave deals for subscribing. I don't subscribe to any magazines now. I have over the years and never read any so I always stop.

PS I would love it if you could have some setting on your blog comments so I can subscribe to them so I know if you reply.

Yea. I end up keeping so many clothes because I have a huge walk-in closet Plus I have 2 other bedrooms with closets that I can put clothes in. i have my childhood furniture that I can just store clothes in. The other day I realized there have been clothes in those drawers for 6 years and I haven't even looked at them (or remembered that I had them).

Thanks! It seriously makes me smile every time I look at it, and I can just imagine re-finishing or painting it later on down the road when we have some more space. No more plastic dressers!
